In Narva LGBTQ+ support groups will take place on November 23 and December 14, 2024
In November and December 2024, LGBTQ support group meetings will be held in Narva, moderated by an experienced psychologist. A support group is a common form of group therapy that enables participants to discuss pressing issues, collaboratively find ways to navigate difficult life situations, share their feelings, and receive peer support from other group members.
“We invite LGBTQ individuals of all ages and identities in Narva to join the support group meetings. We believe that organizing such groups is very important: there is a strong need among LGBTQ+ individuals for a space where they can come together and, in a safe and accepting environment moderated by a psychologist, share their feelings and discuss challenges they face in less accepting spaces. We are all human, and it is important to see that we are not alone; it’s vital to give and receive support, to express love, understanding, and acceptance,” comments Gulya Sultanova, organizer of Q-Space.
Aili Kala, board member and head of advocacy of the Estonian LGBT Association: "Launching this pilot support group in Narva is a significant step forward in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for LGBTQ individuals in the region. We know that LGBTQ people, particularly in smaller and more isolated communities, often face unique challenges. This group aims to provide a safe, welcoming space where people can connect, share experiences, and access vital support. We hope this initiative will serve as a cornerstone for more localized support programs, designed specifically to address the needs and challenges of the LGBT people in Ida-Virumaa. We believe that real change starts with conversation and shared experiences, and we’re committed to working closely with partners to make this support group a meaningful and impactful part of the community”.
The group will be led by Natalja Skvortsova, a Master of Psychology and a psychoanalytic group therapist.
The group meetings will be conducted in Russian in the center of Narva. Participants can choose to attend one group or both, as they wish.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out the registration form, after which the organizers will send detailed information about the time and location of the sessions.
